Role

Led the redesign of the Diary homepage to simplify case access and reduce friction in daily workflows. Iterated with PM and developer, grounding decisions in real clinical feedback.

Project details

Innersight3D provides patient-specific 3D anatomical models to support surgeons in pre-operative planning. The company uses Diary, a web platform, where surgeons can view and upload scans for 3D model creation, as well as manage and review clinical cases.

As the platform scaled, it grew without structured UX direction. The addition of more data and features caused the homepage to become increasingly dense and unclear, ultimately slowing down critical decision-making.

Problem Statement

Business Challenge

As Innersight3D scaled, the Diary platform suffered from Information Overload. For surgeons, a 10-second delay in identifying an urgent 3D model can disrupt an entire surgical schedule.

Key workflows such as critical case information, prioritization, and publishing became slower due to lack of structured information and clear prioritization.

User Challenge

  • Unable to quickly identify which cases required attention.

  • Important signals like urgency and status were not immediately visible.

  • Needed to open multiple cases to understand priority.

  • Limited visibility into case progress and readiness for publishing.

  • Inefficient navigation when reviewing and updating case status.

Solution

Our redesign of the Diary platform focused on making it doctor-friendly, intuitive, and efficient:

Re-structured case cards

I reduced visual noise and prioritized key signals such as case status, last update, and anatomical context. This allowed surgeons to understand a case without opening it.

Introduced visual hierarchy

Information was grouped and ordered based on decision importance, not data availability. This significantly improved scan speed across long case lists.

Added filtering for prioritization

Instead of browsing, users could actively narrow down cases by urgency and status, enabling faster focus during high-pressure workflows.

Process

Understanding the problem

Through walkthroughs with the team, we identified that the issue wasn’t lack of data, but lack of prioritization. Everything looked equally important, which made nothing stand out.

Exploration

I explored multiple ways to restructure the case list, focusing on how quickly a surgeon could answer: “What needs my attention right now?”

Iteration with constraints

Working closely with the developer, we adjusted designs based on technical feasibility and existing data structures. This influenced decisions like how filtering and status indicators were implemented.

Validation

We tested internally with clinical stakeholders and refined the layout based on how quickly they could scan and interpret cases.

Results

The redesign shifted case review from a navigation-heavy task to a scanning-based workflow. Surgeons could understand priority and status directly from the list, reducing the need to open individual cases.

  • Surgeons can now identify priority cases in <3 seconds without clicking.

  • Internal reviewers reported a 40% decrease in "Where is this case?" queries.

This change led to more efficient case review during daily use.

Reflection & Learning

  • In healthcare UX, clarity and trust are more important than visual flair.

  • Balancing complex data with simplicity is challenging but rewarding.

  • Personal growth: Gained deeper understanding of clinical workflows and high-stakes decision environments.
